If you want to try a game that is somehow similar to Commandos although it is more action oriented thus less stealth and more dynamic and less scripted, it would be a good go

i tried soldiers howw2, and faces of war as well, liked them both, and get some feeling back from the commandos games, however, as you said it's not about sneaking.

I've been playing Company of Heroes and Rush to Berlin. COH is good. Still getting into RTB though.

There is also a russian series of the game called Диверсанты where you cannot let any of your men die otherwise it's mission failed. That in my opinion makes it more challenging and similar to Commandos than the others which are much more action oriented

I got this game ages ago and i think its really cool. Very technical and more about battle than stealth. Tried faces of war demo and the graphics were fantastic. I am about to buy the Russian version.
